Press release of the Ministry of National Defense

Time: March 2, 2024 at 10:40

In response to media reports that "A retirement wave may occur as bonuses for pilot contract renewal expire", the Ministry of National Defense (MND) stated today (2nd) that after it revised the "Bonus Rewards for Active Flying Officers of the Armed Forces for Continuous Service" in 2020, the number of people signing up to renew their contracts and leaving the service every year has shown a normal trend.

The MND pointed out that the recruitment of flying forces of the three services has been quite favorable in recent years. Personnel replenishment plans have been completed according to the type of aircraft and retention predictions, and the manpower average has well accommodated the combat readiness needs of troops.

The MND emphasized that since the current policy is believed to be appreciated by the majority of pilots, it will continue to promote such policy of awarding bonuses and subsidies for pilot continuous service contract renewal before contracts expire, and provide guidance to those who qualify in terms of seniority to sign up for new contracts as handled in accordance with regulations. The MND also encourages pilots to stay in active duty service so they can continue to contribute to national defense for a longer period of time.
